Haïda et al. 2013, Environment and scheduling effects on sprint and middle-distance running

Analysis of the top performances in the 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m and 1500 m for men and women (2002 to 2008, plus historical world records). Across this sprint and middle-distance range, performances peaked in warm conditions, with an optimal air temperature around 23 °C, distinct from the cool optimum reported for the marathon. The study did not analyse the 5000 m or 10000 m, so it does not speak directly to longer track events. Moderate.
