Fredette et al. 2022, Running injuries and training parameters: systematic review
This systematic review of 36 prospective studies (n = 23,047 runners) synthesised evidence on how training parameters — distance, duration, frequency, intensity and recent changes — relate to running-related injury. The authors concluded that no universal recommendations on training parameters or progressions can be issued from current evidence, explicitly noting that the popular 10% rule for increasing weekly distance is not justified by the data; evidence on the direction of the association between weekly distance change and injury was generally conflicting. Evidence is moderate.
