Developed a mathematical model (the W’balance model) for tracking how the finite work capacity above critical power (W’) is spent during efforts above CP and reconstituted during recovery below CP. Above CP, W’ depletes; below CP, it recovers exponentially, with the recovery rate depending on how far below CP the recovery is performed. This underpins the use of W’ balance to model and monitor intermittent and interval work in real time. A controlled cycling study with model development.
