Nigg et al. 2015, Preferred movement path and comfort filter
British Journal of Sports Medicine review proposing two paradigms for running footwear, after concluding that impact forces and ankle pronation are poor predictors of injury. The “preferred movement path” holds that a runner’s joints follow a habitual path that footwear should not fight; the “comfort filter” holds that a runner intuitively selects the shoe that keeps them on that path, so choosing for comfort is a sensible guide. A conceptual framework, widely cited but not a controlled injury trial. Moderate.
