Martin et al. 2025, Physical activity, air pollution and all-cause mortality
Systematic review and meta-analysis of eight prospective cohort studies (n = 1,417,945) published in Sports Medicine — Open (DOI: 10.1186/s40798-025-00830-z; PMID: 40192932). Physical activity reduced all-cause mortality by 31% in unpolluted conditions and by 26% in high-pollution conditions, confirming that the protective effect of exercise persists even with concurrent air-pollution exposure. Moderate evidence.
