Knierim Correia et al. 2024, Risk factors for running-related injuries — umbrella systematic review
Umbrella review synthesising 13 systematic reviews drawn from 148 primary studies and 207 reported associations. Running and training characteristics, health and lifestyle factors, and morphological and biomechanical factors all showed large effect sizes for injury risk; the authors emphasise the multifactorial basis of injury and do not single out any specific factor as most consistently supported. The authors caution that the included reviews are of low quality and heterogeneous, warranting cautious interpretation of individual findings. Moderate evidence.
