Doyle et al. 2022, Gait retraining effectiveness in distance runners
Systematic review with meta-analysis of 19 trials (673 participants) published in the Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy (DOI: 10.2519/jospt.2022.10585; PMID: 35128941). Step-rate retraining reduced average vertical loading rate with moderate certainty, and two trials demonstrated reduced one-year injury incidence; neither non-rearfoot footstrike retraining nor multiparameter approaches improved running economy. Moderate evidence.
