Cosgrove & Black 2013, sodium supplementation and cycling time-trial performance in cool conditions
Randomised, double-blinded crossover trial in nine well-trained cyclists performing a 72 km time-trial at approximately 14°C, receiving either 700 mg/h salt capsules or a placebo. Sodium supplementation had no effect on time-trial completion time (171 vs 172 min) or plasma sodium concentration, though the sodium group consumed significantly more fluid and reported greater thirst. Strong.
