Chys et al. 2023, Clinical effectiveness of dry needling in musculoskeletal pain (umbrella review)

Umbrella review published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine synthesising all available systematic reviews on trigger-point dry needling across all body regions. Dry needling was superior to no intervention or sham needling for short-term pain reduction but not superior to other active treatments, with evidence rated very-low to moderate quality; limited data are available for mid- and long-term effects. The review further found that combining dry needling with physiotherapy appeared more effective than dry needling alone. Limited (umbrella review of very-low-to-moderate-quality systematic reviews).
