Burke et al. 2020, LCHF impairment in elite race walkers is reproducible

PLoS One 15(6):e0234027, DOI 10.1371/journal.pone.0234027. “Crisis of confidence averted”: a near-independent replication of the 2017 race-walker study, with largely new investigators and participants (including women). Again the LCHF group more than doubled fat oxidation, raised the oxygen cost at race speeds, and failed to improve a 10 km race walk, while the high-carbohydrate group improved markedly. Found no carryover benefit from adapting to LCHF then restoring carbohydrate for competition. Strong.
