Bonn-Miller et al. 2017, labelling accuracy of CBD products sold online

Research letter in JAMA reporting laboratory testing of 84 cannabidiol (CBD) products from 31 companies bought online. Only 30.9% were accurately labelled for CBD content; 42.9% contained more CBD than stated and 26.2% contained less, nearly 70% mislabelled overall. THC, the intoxicating cannabinoid, was detected in 18 of the 84 products (21.4%), in principle enough to cause an unexpected effect or a doping positive in a product marketed as non-intoxicating. Direct primary evidence that the CBD market is poorly regulated and that buyers cannot trust the label, which matters both for dosing and for anti-doping risk.
