Sensory nerves in working muscle (group III and IV afferents) feed back to the central nervous system and inhibit motor drive, so that peripheral muscle fatigue is held to an individual ceiling. Provides a mechanism that links peripheral and central fatigue without invoking a single governor. Human experimental work using afferent blockade.
